1886: LD Weed has about finished his house, and has made great improvements on the looks, having newly clapboarded and painted it, put in new windows and doors, and a piazza on the west end. Wm. Quimby assisted him in the carpenter work, and Preston Quimby in the painting.
1889: The new road up on Chocorua Mt has recently been put in repair, and with a good stable halfway up for horses, and a good tent near the top, it makes a fine chance to go up on the mountain and camp out.
* Big storm last Saturday … the old spruce tree which has stood as a landmark for so many years at the corner of A Blanchard's store was blown down, also a number of fruit and other trees and board fencing.
* Music festival at the Weirs next weekend
* The barn of Thomas Snow, the fist dweller in Thornton as you pass through Sandwich Notch, was burned by lightning.
* The license bill which has been the subject of so much interest and discussion in the House … was defeated … Carroll County voted 12 to 3 against.
* 31 bushels of blueberries were shipped from Centre Ossipee in July
* Potatoes are rotting
* Roads are in bad condition, due to the rains.
1900: Oscar Bundy … is now on an American warship in Chinese waters. “We are expecting any time to be ordered ashore.”
1903: One of the largest and most pleasant social events of the season was given on Thursday evening at the studio of Mr. and Mrs. E. Wood Perry.
1917: A platform is being built in back of the Library for Old Home Day, to be used for speech-making.
* The severe thunder shower of last week struck in several places. The Masonic Hall was struck but not damaged seriously. Miss Emma White who works in the post office was rendered unconscious and was partially paralyzed for several days.
* Quite an excitement was caused last Saturday night about a half past eleven when the old Beede barn, belonging to Durward Adams was burned to the ground. The barn was one of the old historical landmarks in town and it was upon this place that one of the first families settled here, and although the house was torn down long ago, the barn remained standing and was used simply for a storage place.
